Durmitor is a spectacular national park referred to as the Montenegro Olympus. UNESCO had declared it one of the world’s most prominent natural gems. The mountain ridge is surrounded by the canyons of four rivers: Tara, Susica, Piva, and Komarnica.
The country’s highest point is also here — it is the Bobotov Kuk peak. In total the massif comprises 48 peaks of various heights. There are several glacial lakes in the high-altitude plateau area where the snow stays all year round. The biggest lakes are the Veliko Škrčko and the Black Lake.
The heart of Durmitor is the Zabljak town. It is the highest situated town on the Balkans and a famous ski resort.
All around Zabljak there are Nordic ski routes. The resort itself boasts a great number of good pistes with options of freeriding.
The skiing season is quite long — until the middle of April. Spring and summer in Durmitor offer great possibilities for alpinism, exploring the ice caves and lakes, and trekking along marked trails.
